If you are too close to the travel date, you will pay a lot because they know you don't have a choice. According to an expert on this Rachael Ray episode, if you book a flight exactly 3-1/2 months before your departure date, statistics show that is when you'll get the lowest price. So go ahead and schedule your "booking" date as well as your travel date!
